Products & Care
Yes. All of our cast pieces are made of recycled and custom-alloyed 18K yellow gold, and every piece is solid (nothing hollow). You can read more about our gold, and why we think 18K yellow gold is the most beautiful metal here.
Our round box chains are solid 14K yellow gold, for strength.
All of our jewelry leaves our studio with a high polish. We do not pre-age the gold, we leave that process to you. The photos on our website and Instagram show varying degrees of patina and wear, and you can expect your pieces to acquire that same glow after a bit of wear. The warmth and softness will deepen over time making the pieces truly yours.
Our pieces begin with a high polish that will develop into a glowing, semi-matte patina over time. This patina is the result of tiny nicks and scratches that will start to appear immediately with wear.
A flawless, high polish is not the long-term disposition of 18K gold, nor is it our aim. Our jewelry is designed to be worn and to show the marks of daily life. The warmth and softness of each piece will deepen to become truly yours.
No. Our recycled 18K gold casting grains are composed of 75% fine gold metal and 25% metal alloys (copper, silver, and zinc only).

Yes. Every ring, pendant, and earring is cast by hand. Each piece will have some natural variation, and that is part of the beauty. No two pieces are ever exactly alike, so precise replication should not be expected.
Here and there we like to take on custom projects when we feel there is a match between what the collector is looking for and what we have the capacity to create. Please let us know if there are certain styles or variations you'd like to see. We may be able to help, or we may incorporate them into future collections!
We understand the sense of waste of having a gold piece that you don't wear, and the instinct to repurpose it into something more desirable.
Unfortunately, we cannot incorporate family gold into our rings because of porosity, consistency, and color considerations of the gold. We use 18K gold casting grains that we custom-alloy specifically for our rings. They contain our particular alloy contents and ratios to produce the perfect warm color of our 18k gold.
To use your gold, we’d essentially have to turn the gold into scrap metal and fully reprocess it, which would not save money or insure that it’s your particular gold that ends up in the final ring.
We have similar constraints with respect to family gemstones. Our gemstone pieces are cast from molds that are made to hold stones which are custom cut by our lapidary for our bezel dimensions. We are not able to change the shape or dimensions of our bezels to accommodate anything other than our stones.
Yes. The option to add engraving can be found here. We engrave on the interior of our rings (and the backs of some pendants) only. Engraving adds one week to the overall processing time.
A lab grown gem is cultivated rather than mined from the earth. It is identical to a mined gem in every way - molecular structure, refractive index, dispersion, hardness, luster, and appearance. Lab grown gems have the same chemical, physical and optical properties as their mined counterparts because they are formed under equivalent conditions. Just as a fir tree in the wild is the same as a fir tree planted and grown in a park, grown gems are identical to mined gems.
Emeralds, for example, are formed in nature when beryllium, aluminum, silicon, and oxygen flow together in hydrothermal veins deep in the earth’s crust and then cool. The same intensive process of slowly heating and cooling these four elements is re-created in a controlled environment when producing lab grown emeralds. The emeralds are every bit as real, but they are not mined from the earth.
At George Rings, we create heirloom jewelry from the most precious and beautiful of nature's raw materials. We are committed to sourcing the most lustrous, durable, and precious gems from the most ethical supply chains we can find, whether grown or mined.
Throughout the year we mail trifolds and catalogs to our collectors; periodically, we publish an incredible lookbook full of gorgeous images, behind-the-scenes details about our designs, and stories and highlights of George collectors.

Sizing & Rings
Finding your ideal fit is a matter of individual preference.
Please review our sizing tips page before ordering, and if you are still unsure, we recommend ordering our ring sizer kit.
If you would like more information about how a specific ring might fit on your finger shape, or if you have any other questions, please feel free to book a personal consultation with us (video or in-person).
We are happy to resize your ring for you. Simply contact us with your request and order number, and we will provide you with an insured shipping label and instructions. The cost to resize is $150-$300 per ring for up to one whole ring size, up or down (includes insured shipping both ways). If you need a size larger or smaller than one whole ring size, we will provide you with a custom quote.
You can also choose to have your ring resized by a local jeweler. Please note that the buttery edges that define our rings require extra attention and care when they are polished. It may be helpful, therefore, to provide specific instructions to respect the timeworn edges and soft curves.
We have a studio in Portland, Oregon, where we are pleased to host personal consultations by appointment. Our consultations are fun, informative, and always pressure-free, so please don't feel intimidated to book. We'd love to meet you!
Throughout the year, we also travel and host trunk shows to allow potential and existing collectors the chance to touch the jewelry.
